What is affiliate marketing?

We looked at Escalate previously and I described them as an advertising network.  You can certainly earn some money this way and many of you already have done.  But today we will look at signing up with ShareASale which is different – I would describe them as an affiliate network.

Escalate features banner adverts which you display and can be paid for in a number of ways, primarily Pay per Click and Pay per Conversion – email sign ups.  The advertisers aren’t necessarily selling anything.  You might try out several adverts to see what you readers are interested in, and perhaps change these out frequently as new offers are published.  These tend to be more temporary in nature.

But ShareASale adverts primarily promote online stores where you will be paid a generous commission for any sales referred by your site.  I’ve seen commissions of up to 80% but more typically they will be around 10-30%. These referrals can be by way of a display banner advert in your sidebar, but can also be by text links, sponsored posts, product reviews and social media – and more.

A sidebar banner can still work, and bring you sales if targeted correctly.   The really big earnings from Affiliate Sales comes from careful targeting of your merchants to your readers interests, along with personal recommendation and promotion which encourages your readers to BUY.  If done correctly, affiliate marketing can be a big earner.  But if there are no sales – you earn nothing.

Adding banners, making recommendations and Deep Linking

Affiliate marketing may be more direct and personal to your readers than the advertising banners we have added before.  As an affiliate, you are only paid on SALES, so you may chose to take a more active approach in promoting your offers.  By offering your readers real value, you will receive value in return.

Your readers value your opinions, trust your content and want to hear more about what you have to say.  If you have a company or product you love – tell them about it, recommend it.  But don’t lose the trust of your readers. Recommend only products you have used or would use yourself.  You should never jeopardize the long-term standing of your site and reputation in the hope of making a quick buck.
Be genuine.

If you are already used to advertising banners and have recently been adding in banners from Escalate, then adding your affiliate links will be easy.  Your probably even already know how to do it.  But I will still review adding in a banner to your sidebar and post in case this is your first time.

Most affiliate sales come from ‘Deep Linking‘.  That is where you recommend and link to a particular product or range of products.  So rather than direct your banner to the front page and leave your reader to do all of the work, I will show you how to set up your own custom affiliate link to any page or product for the best possible sales results.

1. Floating Adsense Ads

There are lot of questions on IM forums about Floating Adsense ads and I work with them long enough that I can tell you the truth.

Adsense does allow floating Adsense Ads in sidebar but only if you don’t get catchy clicks on their ads.
What are those catchy clicks?

So if you put for example widget title: “Click here to support me” and your ad under that.
Or if you put widget title “Similar posts”, or “Also check this topic”, and you put your ad unit under that.
You catch your clicks and people don’t even know that they will go to another site and even if they like what they found, that’s against Adsense rules.

You can also make only one floating widget, you don’t have to stick all of them, so some of them will stay where they was in the first place if you don’t check this option, and widget that you check will float in your sidebar.

2. Put one Ad Unit in the Middle of your post

Adsense ads will show ads based on the site keywords, and if you put your ad in the sidebar it will probably need some time to grab keywords from your site, it’s also the case with all Header ads.
Believe me, your visitor will get relevant ads only after 2nd or 3rd pagevisit and that’s wrong.
How to show relevant Ads all the time?

Put one Adsense unit wrapped in the middle of your post so Adsense will easily grab your keywords from article and it will show 100% relevant ads every time.

How to put Adsense ad wrapped in my article?

There is one great plugin that I use for this option, it’s Easy Adsense plugin for WordPress.

It’s easy to setup your Adsense ad, Activate plugin, go to Settings and activate ‘Ad in the Middle’ and check Wrapped in text option.

Plugin will automatically add your Adsense code in the middle of your articles.
Wrapped ads will make you 25% better results than your Header and Footer ads.

3. Always use both Display and Text Ads

One thing that I learned after few years with Adsense ads is this one, never use only Display Ads on your site.

Display Ads will not show relevant ads to your visitors every time, and if you change your Ad type to both Text and Display you will see more and more income.
I used display ads in my sidebar on 10 niche sites and then I changed it to Text and Display Ads.

In 3 days I got more than 30% increase in my income reports on Adsense.
So this is a lifesaver, believe me, and I will give you one more really important tip for your text Ads.

Always Match your Text Ad color with your website color

 How to Boost Google AdSense Earnings in Natural way

This is one of the most important thing that you need to do with your Ad units.
People are more likely to click on your Ad if you make Ad design that will look like the part of your website.

You can choose unlimited colors in Ad editor, also choose some nice font, choose the one that’s similar with your website font.

With nice Ad design and good Ad placement visitor will not be attacked with your ad, they will find your Ads helpful and Adsense will love you.

My Experience with Infolinks

1. Google Adsense – This is where I started. Adsense is a simple program, once accepted, you put their ads on your site and then get paid when people click on them! When I first started I was making pennies every day, but I decided to stick with it a few weeks and see what happens. Right now, I’m averaging almost $2 a day. (That’s with pageviews being between 1,000-1,800 every day). That’s not a lot for a day’s wages, but if you add it up throughout the year, and consider that I’m not putting out any extra effort, I’m just blogging like I’ve always blogged, it’s not too bad! I’m literally getting paid to do what I was already doing, as long as their ads are on my site. (update 2015 – As my page views went up so did my adsense earnings until I was earning between $5 and $30 a day there.)

2. Social Spark – This is a really neat company that helps bloggers get connected with brands for sponsored posts. You sign up for the program (it’s free) and fill out some information about your blog. Then Social Spark will let you know when you get ‘leads’. You can read information about each lead and decide whether or not to accept them. Once you’ve accepted, the company that provided the lead may select you to preform the sponsored post for them. Oftentimes they will have a specific topic for you to write about, and they will ask that you include certain information about their company or specific links to their site. This is a great way to get writing inspiration AND be paid for writing! My first sponsored post was published in July 2013 and it was a lot of fun!

3. Izea – This is new as of 2014, last year I was working with sponsored tweets, which is merging in to Izea, along with Social spark. I’ve been working with them for several months now and have had a really positive experience. They are still working out some kinks as it is a new site, but they have always been quick to respond to my emails when I have questions or issues. Payout is after 30 days, just like it was with social spark and sponsored tweets. I’ve been paid multiple times with them and end up making hundreds a month with this company. They do have a paid upgrade for $1 a month. I’ve upgraded and it is more than worth the $1. I definitely suggest trying it out for a month, and seeing what you can do! In my opinion $1 is nothing compared with the opportunities supplied through izea!

4. Linqia – I’ve worked on a few campaigns with Linqia, and had a great experience. They are not a brand that I work with monthly, like the ones above since there are just not as many opportunities, it’s still a great company and I enjoy it when I do get campaigns with them! I know several bloggers who have had more success with it than I have, so I definitely think it is worth trying out!

5. Social Fabric – For about a year this was my go-to site for sponsored posts! I am not using it as much now, because the application process is a bit more intense than some of the others and I am already a part of a few consistent ambassador type programs. It is a great place to find brands to work with and my experience there has been about 89-90% positive.

These are programs with which I’ve had personal and positive experience. While many of the above links are affiliates, I would be sharing each of these programs with or without referral links. These are brands I believe in and that have helped me reach many of my dreams as a blogger. There are other programs that will even pay me for every sign up I get from them, but I am not mentioning them here as I disagree with the way they run things and no referral code is worth that!

Google Adsense is best platforms to earn money online from website or blog. but there is a big problem to grabbing its cash! everyone cannot be succeeded with it. I know there are many bloggers who makes 1000$ dollars in a month only with the adsense program but the majority percent of blogger can made only 20$-50$ in a month or maybe rarely they can made 100$. If anyone use illegal methods to grab adsense money, their accounts will be terminated immediately as soon as google noticed it.

AdSense Earnings Money depends on traffic source and location

CPC rates for an Asian country is considerable lower as compared to that of Canada, Europe, US, Australia and New Zealand. Now what are you thinking? Do you have good amount traffic from these country? If your site doesn’t have huge traffic from these countries, don’t expect your site to earn huge dollars unless it gets over 300000 monthly. (Only unique visitors will be counted)

Visitors should come from any search engine. for example Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex, Altavista. Google does not love traffic from advertising or social networks. For example Facebook post, Facebook page source, Pinterest Updates Twitter Tweets or Instagram.

Effective Tips to increase adsense earning when traffic not increased

Set ad position to the top of post aligned to left side

As far I know or after my experiment, This is the best adsense position. Ad a responsive ad unit that adjust to 300 x 250 or 336 x 280 size on desktops. Displaying too large size advertisement on top of the blog post in smartphone is very bad idea, it makes the post user un-friendly. Google wont love the blog which is not user friendly.

Set an ad to below blog post:

Please mark this position as 2nd best position. Ads placed here will get a lot of clicks. You can add rectangle size adsense unit. The mentioned 2 positions will boost your earning in a few days. I'm sure you will be satisfied.

Set an ad to Center of the sidebar

This one is confusing, but most of the blogger are using this position. Reason is its easy to use and setup. Sidebars never were a best adsense positions but you can still earn money. Place a large size ad unit for example 300x600 to the center of the sidebar. Don’t add it above the fold because Google will penalize your blog or site because this algorithm (source linked) is live.

To be honest with you, I’m not a fan of center of blog post position as I don’t know where exactly the ad will be placed. I wonder if the ad appear under a text like this "Click to download" or "Click here to read more" ? Can you guess what will happen next? Yes google definitely terminate for permanently for their publisher program. When you change the position, make sure that your site follows adsense policies

Use free keywords planner tool

When you write any post, use any free keyword planner to use most effective words for your post, this will help you to get organic traffic from search engine.

One Last Word to you

I belive Adsense is the best method to monetize any blog or site to earn valuable cash, but if you faild with adsnes it doesn't mean you can't make money from you blog. There are alternatives of google. You can check here a guide to alternative for google adsense.

Adsense program accepts websites that have quality content or very high organic search traffic. If your site doesn’t have any of these 2, instead of wasting your time in applying for adsense account, use any of the below techniques to monetize your site. I’ve not recommended ad networks like infolinks, chitika, vigilink, media.net,…etc as they pay you just one or 2 pennies for traffic from non English speaking countries. These advertising networks demotivate bloggers due to their low payouts. Hence many bloggers quit their online careers within 5 or 6 months.

Best ways to make money without adsense in 2015

Direct advertisements: If your website traffic is above 300000 PV/month, i would recommend you to apply for Buysell ads. Just like Google, BSA has strict requirements. It will never accept a low traffic website. When your site has been accepted for the BSA platform, you’ll have to set a CPM price that you’re willing to accept. If the advertiser finds your site useful, he’ll request you to add a display advertisement on your blog. Blogads is a good alternative to bul and sell ads. A website with low traffic should have an advertisement page with important details like traffic stats, page rank, Domain authority, moz rank,…etcc. You should also add the minimum amount you’re willing to accept for an advertisement. Low traffic websites can easily earn 50 to 100 dollars every month using this strategy.


CPI programs: Flipkart has launched a CPI program for the Indian bloggers and webmasters. When your promote the eCommerce giant’s app on your site and if a genuine user installs it, flipkart will pay you Rs 25, 30 or 60. There are many such programs on the internet. Instead of searching for it, you should signup with a CPI network like nativeX, Leadbolt, LeadHug,…etc. These networks have a huge inventory of apps.

Affiliate marketing: Affiliate marketing is not a child’s play. You need to be careful and active to successfully earn money with this technique. If you’re having a blog on Blogger, WordPress, SEO niche, promote hosting, SEO tools, themes. If you’ve a tech blog, signup for amazon associates or affiliate program of any top eCommerce portal in your region and promote laptops, phones, mobile accessories,…etc. For every affiliate sale you’ll receive 1 to 100% commission. To keep your website safe from Google penalty, make sure that all affiliate links on your blog are nofollow.


Sponsored posts: Accept a sponsored post only if the seller allows you to use nofollow attribute for their links Selling dofollow links I.E text links is a crime in the eyes of Google. If you sell them, your blog will be penalized in the next Google Penguin update. In my perspective, this is the most riskiest way to earn money online. You should better avoid it if you’re blogging to earn your living. Sponsored posts are offered only to bloggers whose website have been awarded a page rank by Google. The last page rank update was in December 2014. Many bloggers believe that Google has killed the PR system. Thus it may not update the page rank of websites anymore. Webmasters who have started blogging after Dec 2014 should use the above 3 programs to monetize their sites.

Make money online with killer landing pages for your site – it’s not as difficult as you may think and these simple tips can help you earn cash from your blog. Although you may think that you have to be a web designer or an internet marketing guru to make money online, but that is most certainly not the case!
One of the best ways to make some extra cash either on the side, or to make enough to quit your full-time job, is to simply set up a landing page. If you have a blog or are starting up an affiliate marketing campaign, this is definitely a “must.”

What Is A Landing Page?

A landing page, which is also commonly referred to as a “squeeze” page or a “capture” page, is really any page that traffic is directed to on a website which will then try to prompt a particular action. A few different examples of landing pages include:

• Internet traffic is directed from your blog post or a link on a sidebar to a landing page that is selling affiliate products
• Internet traffic is sent from a link that the clicked to a page that is prompting them to purchase something
• Internet traffic is sent from a banner advertising that they clicked to a landing page that is designed for that particular target audience (i.e. if the banner ad was about doggie daycare, it is to be assumed that whoever clicked it is looking for doggie daycare. The landing page would then be related to that)

The goal of a landing page is really to obtain personal information on whoever is coming through your site. You may ask for an email address on a landing page, or a name and an email address. Some landing pages ask for phone numbers and addresses, though people are far less likely to offer up that information. The benefit of this is that when a person who provided you their email address leaves your website, you then have the ability to contact them again. You can send them follow-up emails, daily specials, deals… you can send them whatever you choose and boost your potential sales as a result.

How To Write The Best Landing Page

The problem with a lot of landing pages out there is that the quality of the writing is lacking. There are some things that you should do when you write a landing page to ensure it is successful. First, provide a clear call to action. Whether you use hot linked text or graphic buttons doesn’t matter. The text on your page needs to tell your reader what they have to do to get in on whatever it is your landing page is about. Try to add in a call to action at least 3 times in a landing page so that you are sure that they got the message.

The headline of your landing page should also refer to where your visitor just came from. Make sure that you always write in the second person (which means using “you” and “your”) and make sure that the message is clear and persuasive. Don’t try to be clever, don’t try to be overly creative – now is not the time. Be direct, be clear, and you will have better results.

TIP: When it comes to writing your landing page, you can write your copy to be as long as you want. Just keep in mind that it should be as concise as possible and to keep it tight. As a general rule of thumb, have a longer copy when you want to sell something and close the sale, and have a shorter copy for any sort of newsletter or subscription sign-up (or something of no monetary value).

All of your most important points should be at the beginning of each paragraph, and in bullet points. Keep in mind that visitors are just skimming your page and not looking at it word for word. Having things like bullet points and white space will help you draw your customers’ eyes to exactly where you want them to be.
Oh yeah, and keep that first paragraph short. 1-2 lines is just enough to engage them rather than bore or overwhelm them.

How To Design The Best Landing Page

Not sure how to design your landing page? Not a problem. Start scoping out what your competitors are up to. Make note of what you like and what you don’t. Write it all down and start thinking about what you could use for yours. Think of any simple revisions that you may want to make.

One thing that we have to stress is that when it comes to your landing page, remove all visual clutter. This includes navigational bars and any links to other sections of your site. Your goal is to have the reader focused on your writing and your writing only. Their eyes should not be tempted to wander off to a flashing graphic in the sidebar.

On that note, any critical landing page elements should be placed in the upper 300 pixels of the page. Why? Because people want information quick and immediately. Most people who are just skimming through your site are only going to look at the top half of the page and won’t even bother to scroll down. So make sure that you get right to the point straight away without having to make any visitors do any “work.”

It’s also a good idea to use standard conventions when creating your landing page. For example, if you have any links, underline them. Allow them to be “blue,” this is what people expect. Be clear, be descriptive, and make sure that any visitor looking at the link will understand why it’s there.

Lastly, make sure your page loads quickly. Having a page that doesn’t load quickly enough will have them clicking that “x” in the upper right-hand corner faster than anything else. This means keep the graphics to a minimum and only optimize those which are essential.

#1 Don’t violate any AdSense Guidelines

• Buying traffic or clicks
• Making the ads not look like ads

#2 Use Responsive AdSense Units

We made several tests and all tests show (more details to be published in coming posts) that responsive websites with responsive AdSense units perform better than non-responsive websites.
If you have a responsive website then you can replace your ads with Responsive AdSense Units. This means that depending on the available ad space, AdSense will show the most appropriate ad (both in size and type).

Especially for mobile websites, you will soon realise that the 300×250 on mobile performs much better compared to the standard 320×50.

#3 Place your ads where users can see them

The position of the ads is very important and can make a big difference in clicks and earnings. It’s always better to have the ads above the fold (that’s the area users see without scrolling) but if this is not possible then try to have the ads in the main content of the page instead of the sidebar.
Caution: Google punishes websites that have too many ads above the fold so if you choose to enter the ads in the main content do it at the end of the article. See an example below from androidcentral.com of ads positioned below the fold but in the main content area.

#4 Publish Content more often

Depending on the type of website, you may choose to publish content more often. The idea is that frequent publishing will generate more visits to your website and more visits will naturally generated more AdSense clicks and revenue.

#5 Make your website load faster

It is proven that faster websites lead to more ad clicks so if you optimize your website’s speed this will eventually increase your earnings too. Avoid using too many graphics and remove any images that don’t add value to the user experience but slow down the site.

#6 Remove other ad networks

If you want to make more from AdSense then you can remove any other ad networks and run AdSense only. This will not only make your website load faster but also it will give more visibility to the AdSense ads that will lead to more clicks and revenue. Certainly many ads does not mean more revenue so it’s always better to stick to the 3 ads per page (even if you are not using AdSense).

#7 Find your Adsense Referrers and improve them

When you connect your Google Analytics account with Google Adsense, you can go in Analytics and see which referrers generate your AdSense revenue. You can see that under Behaviour -> AdSense -> AdSense Referrers.
Maybe visits from Facebook or other social media networks generate AdSense revenue when they visit your website so it’s a good idea to work on those and improve your presence so as to get more traffic and revenue.

#8 Use standard ad sizes (both text and image)

When setting up your ads use the sizes recommended by AdSense as being the most popular. These usually are 728×90, 336×280, 300×250 and 300×600. Other sizes may have less demand from advertisers and this will lead to lower earnings.
Also, make sure that your ads are set to show both text and images as this will increase the numbers of advertisers competing for your ad spaces and will lead to better earnings per click.

#9 Use AdSense experiments to test different ad variations

One of the features of AdSense that is not well known to users is AdSense Experiments (found under My Ads in your AdSense account). With experiments you can test different variations for the same ad spot and see which one performs better.

For example you may test different link colors, border or no border etc. This feature is very easy to use and you can tell in a few days which of your ads are better performing.
